2000 CALL FOR PAPERS

The Division of Linguistic Approaches to Literature invites proposals for three division-sponsored sessions at the 2000 MLA convention.

I. Signed language and literature

Linguistic approaches to signed literature, as well as literary representations of signing. Papers should be intelligible to non-signers. 250-word abstracts to Don Freeman, dfreeman@mizar.usc.edu, by March 10.

II. Discourse constructions in diverse media.

Linguistic discourse-based approaches to media other than the printed page (e.g. film, performance, internet, documentaries) especially welcome. 250-word abstracts to Don Freeman, dfreeman@mizar.usc.edu, by March 10.

III. Linguistic approaches in the classroom.

Suggested topics: using linguistics to teach critical reading, linguistic approaches and interdisciplinarity, linguistic approaches and cultural studies. Other topics also welcome. 250-word abstracts to Don Freeman, dfreeman@mizar.usc.edu, by March 10.
