"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. - A New Editorial Team
From 1st July 2013, a restructured editorial taskforce is headed by Editor-in-Chief Professor C.-C. Jane Tang (Institute of Linguistics, Academia Sinica) and Associate Editors Professor Thomas Hun-Tak Lee (Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages, The Chinese University of Hong Kong), Professor Henry Y. Chang (Institute of Linguistics, Academia Sinica) and Professor Pei-chuan Wei (Institute of Linguistics, Academia Sinica).

- Online Submission
From 1st September 2013, manuscripts should be submitted through the newly launched online submission/review system at the following URL:


- International Publication and Distribution
From 1st January 2014, L&L will be co-published by ILAS (Institute of Linguistics, Academia Sinica) and SAGE Publications, Ltd (http://online.sagepub.com/) in England and distributed worldwide.
