"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. FYI Body: We are looking for contributors to our edited book project on '' Changing Roles of English in Eastern Africa''. What is the current status of English in Eastern Africa? What are its current functional allocations? Is English still a mark of good education and a guarantee to a well-paid job?

We already have contributions on Eritrea, Kenya and Sudan, but we still need chapters on Burundi, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Rwanda , Tanzania and Uganda.

Deadline for the submission of full articles is June 15, 2014. Articles must be around 3000-5000 words and be written in APA format.
