The Language and Social Interaction Division of NCA is seeking submissions for this year's Outstanding Scholarly Publication Award. This award is designed to recognize and encourage outstanding scholarship by Language and Social Interaction Division members. The award is presented to the author(s) of an article, chapter, or monograph in the area of language and social interaction published in a recognized scholarly journal, collection of scholarly papers, or series of scholarly monographs. Any member of the LSI Division may nominate a published work; the senior author must be a member of the LSI Division during the year in which the award is made. Selection criteria include scholarly merit, contribution to knowledge in language and social interaction, and current impact on the discipline. Studies of an analytical, critical, empirical, philosophical, or theoretical nature are eligible for consideration. Only actually published works can be considered, and the "curren impact" criterion (as well as the other criteria mentioned) will be applied regardless of the date of publication. The nomination should include a rationale and five copies of the publication. In the case of a book-length manuscript, the person making the nomination should co-ordinate with the selection committee Chair as to the number of copies needed. The award-winning author(s) will be named at the business meeting of the LSI Division at this year's annual convention in Chicago. The senior author will be presented with a check for $50 and a certificate. Nominations must be received by August 1, 1999. Send them to Kristine Fitch, Chair, LSI Outstanding Scholarly Publication Award Committee, Communication Studies Dept., University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA 52242-1498. Please consider nominating a colleague's work, or your own, for this award. =============================================================== Alan C. Harris, Ph. D.
