This is a small topic site on the language futures of Europe. It is still under construction, so suggestions are welcome, especially of non-academic sites advocating specific language futures.
Applications are invited for two three-year teaching studentships to be held in the Department of Linguistic Science from October 1s 1997. A studentship will offer a stipend of GBP5190 per annum, free PhD registration at the European Union student rate of GBP2540 and a sum of GBP2400 in return for a maximum of 120 hours teaching a year. (Non-EU students must make up the fee shortfall of GBP3730 or GBP5590.)
The Department intends to interview suitable candidates during Augus or September. It will pay travelling expenses within the UK.
Applications for one studentship will be particularly welcome from suitable candidates with a qualification and experience in Speech and Language Therapy. Otherwise applicants may have research interests in any of the fields of current research activity in the department:
theoretical syntax, phonology, pragmatics first or second language acquisition language pathology and clinical linguistics experimental phonetics sociolinguistics, especially language variation and change discourse analysis aphasiology applied linguistics
Applicants should have either a first degree (first or upper second class honours or equivalent) or an MA in linguistics or a closely related field.
