"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. FYI Body: Call for Editor of the Annual Review of Applied Linguistics

The Annual Review of Applied Linguistics, published by Cambridge
University Press, is seeking a new editor. That person will be
responsible for the planning and editing of the journal beginning with
the 2015 volume.

Applicants should have a strong record of publication in some area of
applied linguistics as well as a broad knowledge of issues in the field.
Editing experience is preferred.

Compensation includes an expense budget from Cambridge University
Press in addition to royalties from the publication of the journal.

Interested persons should send a letter of interest and full CV in one
pdf file to Charlene Polio, Editor of the Annual Review of Applied
Linguistics, at polio@msu.edu by May 15, 2012. Additional materials
may be requested. Questions should also be directed to Charlene

The decision will be made by the Annual Review of Applied Linguistics
Editorial Directors and Cambridge University Press.
