"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. The Call for Proposals for the fourth round of the Cambridge ESOL Funded Research Programme is now open.

Cambridge ESOL is once again providing funding of up to GBP15,000 per project for research into Cambridge English exams and teaching qualifications in relation to test validation, contexts of use, test impact and learning-oriented assessment.

Educational institutions and qualified researchers are encouraged to submit proposals but please note that Doctoral or Masters students are not eligible for funding.
