"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. FYI Body: Dear list members,

This is to announce that registration for the Eastern European Summerschool
in Generative Linguistics 2005 (egg05) is now open. Please share this
information with any students you have who might be interested in attending.

The school will take place in Wroclaw (Poland) from July 25 to August 5. As
usual, the school is entirely free for participants (except for
accommodation) and some travel and accommodation grants are available for
qualifying students from Central and Eastern European countries.
