"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Media Body: The Professional Master's Program in Computational Linguistics at the
University of Washington will be holding a live webcast info session on
Wednesday, May 16th, 3:30-4:30 pm (Pacific Daylight Time).

In the webcast, Professors Emily M. Bender and Fei Xia will give a brief
overview of the program (curriculum, enrollment options, etc.) and discuss
employment opportunities for our grads. Questions from prospective students
about post-graduation careers and the program in general will be welcome
via email and will be answered during the live broadcast.
