"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Media Body: On the Day of the World's Indigenous People (August 9), Wuqu'Kawoq:
Maya Health Alliance announced the availability of a free software
plug-in that allows users to access Facebook's interface completely in
the Kaqchikel language. The software can be downloaded at
www.wachwuj.com.

It is the result of collaboration between linguists Robert Henderson
(McGill U.) and Juan Ajsinivac (Kaqchikel Colchi, Guatemala), and Dr.
Peter Rohloff (Wuqu' Kawoq Medical Director), based on a script
developed by Kevin Scannell (St. Louis U.)

The release has generated media buzz on Yahoo News as well as
CNN Mexico.
