Subject: Speaking rates
Question: Is it possible to compare the speed at which different languages are normally spoken? If so, which languages are relatively fast and which are slow?
Reply: In addition to what Dr. Cruz-Ferreira said, let me add that the speaking rate of a language you don't know frequently sounds faster than the speaking rate of a language you do know. This is a subjective impression, often no supported by actual measurement.
