|Subject:||Self-Taught Linguistic Approach|
|Question:||Hello respected experts of the Linguistics Branch, Looking for a book that covers a general overview of all Linguistic topics and sub-topics. On this page of the website http://linguistlist.org/pubs/books/index.cfm there is an extensive list in the ''Linguistic Field'' list. Are you able to recommend the least amount of textbooks required that would briefly cover all areas in this list and provide next steps to continue the study? Let me know if such a piece of literature exists and which book covers the topic with a very optimistic view point covering all different approaches to the science. Thank you in advance! Please let me know if you have any questions! Regards, Kurt.R.Graham|
|Reply:||You can try a textbook I wrote for precisely the purposes that you mention, _The Language of Language. A Linguistics Course for Starters_: http://lang101.com/textbook.html The book comes complete with a workbook, a blog and instructor resources, all available from the above site. Madalena|
