"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Question: Hello respected experts of the Linguistics Branch,

Looking for a book that covers a general overview of all
Linguistic topics and sub-topics.

extensive list in the ''Linguistic Field'' list. Are you able to
recommend the least amount of textbooks required that
would briefly cover all areas in this list and provide next
steps to continue the study?

Let me know if such a piece of literature exists and which
book covers the topic with a very optimistic view point
covering all different approaches to the science.
