My boyfriend is currently interested in switching into a linguistics major program, but through the research we have done it was inconclusive which universities truly were the best. In a current linguist's opinion, What university, preferably in the United States, is the best for entering the field today? Thank you for your time and consideration, Catherine Atchley |

I agree with my colleague's recommendation to look for a best fit in terms of interests and lifestyle I will add that any institution with a full linguistics department (especially one that awards PhDs) will probably be able to provide what is needed. I would also look for a school which combines both linguistics and the languages and sub-disciplines (e.g. Classics, psychology, anthropology, computer science) of interest. I believe you will find good candidate programs in all regions of the US and many at less-expensive state schools. |
