Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Subject: Expediting vocabulary acquisition for second language learners
Question: Dear Professors,

I'm interesting in exploring how we can make vocabulary learning
more effective (including, remembering new words faster) for
second language learners. The target language is English for the
concreteness of the discussion.

I know many are pointing to Spaced Repetition System (SRS). But I
think there must be more to that than just SRS.

So what do you think are the major factors that can help second
language learners acquire new words faster/more effective?

Reply: Vocabulary, like the rest of language, is best learned – and so remembered – through meaningful interaction. If the situations where learners need to use language make sense to them and are relevant to them, then they’ll remember the language that goes with them.

Think of how you yourself have no problems remembering what matters to you, and how to use language to talk about it?
