|Subject:||I need a word|
I have been searching for a word, or even a short phrase that
encompasses the entirety of human health, wellness, and well-being.
More so the concept of an individual who is actively pursuing a
state of complete and utter health/wellness. I have discovered a
word that I feel encompasses this pretty well, only in antonym:
I would be satisfied even with foreign words or phrases, but alas I
have not come up with a single satisfactory solution.
Advice is relished.
Well, for me, valetudinarian is very close indeed in meaning to the
word/phrase you are looking for, and therefore not an antonym to
it. It means 'one with an *undue* concern for their health', so
only the word between asterisks is an antonym; otherwise, it would
be the definition you are looking for. An antonym might be 'couch
potato'. Unfortunately, no good word comes readily to my mind, but
you might try looking for an antonym to 'couch potato'. If you
think of any other near-synonyms or (near-)antonyms, you might try
the Visual thesaurus, though I didn't have any luck with either
'couch potato' or 'valetudinarian' (VT seems to concentrate on the
negative connotations of 'couch potato', rather than health issues,
and gives no antonyms for valetudinarian). Anyway, good luck.
