Meeting Description:	The University of Rouen and the Comenius University of Bratislava are organising in Rouen on 25th, 26th and 27th June 2012 an international conference on the following topic: Languages of Fragmentary Attestation in the Mediterranean Basin during the 1st Millennium BCE: Inscriptions, Epigraphic Genres and Sociolinguistic Analysis In the course of the 1st millennium BCE the technique of writing spread in various manners to all regions of the Mediterranean Basin. But in the eyes of contemporary research most of the languages which thus began to be written are languages of fragmentary attestation, that is, languages with restricted or even very restricted records, limited to a small number of inscriptions and also in some cases to a few glosses. Our aim is to discuss the uses of writing and the features of the attested epigraphic documents from a sociolinguistic and transversal perspective. In our opinion it is relevant to compare the data from a large number of languages, not only Indo-European ones, as this will enable the languages of the Iberian Peninsula or Africa to be confronted with studies on these better-known languages. L'Université de Rouen et l'université Comenius de Bratislava se proposent d'organiser les 25, 26 et 27 juin 2012 à Rouen un colloque international portant sur le thème suivant : Les Langues d'attestation fragmentaire dans l'espace méditerranéen au Ier millénaire avant notre ère : inscriptions, genres épigraphiques et analyse socio-linguistique Dans le courant du Ier millénaire avant notre ère, l'écriture se diffuse selon des modalités diverses dans toutes les régions du bassin méditerranéen. Mais la plupart des langues qui accèdent ainsi à l'écriture sont pour la recherche d'aujourd'hui des langues d'attestation fragmentaire, c'est-à-dire des langues à corpus restreint ou très restreint, limité à un petit nombre d'inscriptions et éventuellement de gloses. Nous souhaiterions explorer les enjeux de l'écriture et de la documentation épigraphique d'une manière socio-linguistique et transversale. D'une part, il nous semble utile de comparer les données d'un grand nombre de langues, pas seulement indo-européennes. Les langues de la péninsule ibérique ou de l'Afrique antique pourront ainsi être confrontées aux traditions mieux étudiées de ces dernières. Am 25., 26. und 27. Juni 2012 haben die Universität Rouen und die Jagellon-Universität Krakau vor, eine internationale Konferenz über das folgende Thema zu organisieren : Trümmersprachen im Mittelmeerraum im I. Jahrtausend vor Chr. : Inschriften, epigraphische Gattungen und soziolinguistische Deutung Im I. Jahrtausend vor Chr. hat sich die Technik der Schrift in allen Gebieten des Mittelmeerbeckens vielfach verbreitet. Die meisten Sprachen aber, die damals zuerst aufgeschrieben wurden, sind vom Standpunkt der heutigen Forschung aus Trümmersprachen, d. h. Sprachen, die in nur wenigen oder sehr wenigen Belegen überliefert sind, denn sie bestehen aus einer kleinen Zahl von Inschriften oder aber auch nur in Glossen. Wir wollen die Grundzüge des Schriftgebrauchs und der epigraphischen Gattungen auf eine soziolinguistisch orientierte und interdisziplinäre Weise erforschen. Einerseits ist es unserer Meinung nach interessant, die Daten einer großen Zahl von Sprachen, und zwar nicht nur von indogermanischen Sprachen, miteinander zu vergleichen. Die Sprachen der iberischen Halbinsel und des antiken Afrikas z. B. sollen mit den intensiver erforschten Traditionen der indogermanischen Sprachen in Vergleich gesetzt werden.
