"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Meeting Description: The Theoretical Phonology Conference (TPC) was initiated by National Chengchi University in 2005 and hosted by the Graduate Institute of Linguistics at National Chengchi University and the Institute of Linguistics at Academia Sinica in 2009 and 2011. This conference is a premier international conference series dedicated to the scientific research of theoretical phonology and Chinese languages. It aims to provide a platform for formal phonology researchers and graduate students to exchange their ideas and new findings in theoretical studies in the generative framework.

We are pleased to announce that the 4th International Theoretical Phonology Conference (TPC 4) will be held May 4-6, 2013, at National Chengchi University, Taipei, Taiwan. The present conference is hosted by the Graduate Institute of Linguistics at National Chengchi University and co-hosted by the Institute of Linguistics at Academia Sinica. 2013 is the year to celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Graduate Institute of Linguistics at National Chengchi University.
