"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Meeting Description: The Department of English Linguistics at the Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary, Budapest is pleased to announce an international conference entitled Interfaces in English Lingustics. The aim of the event is to bring together researchers who investigate various aspects of English phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax or semantics both from a synchronic and also from a diachronic point of view. We are expecting papers that ideally address issues related to interface phenomena addressing any of the above-listed fields of research.

Venue:

Building of the Faculty of Arts (H-1088, Budapest, Reviczky u. 4), located directly in the centre of Budapest close to the bank of the river Danube

Confirmed Keynote Speaker:

László Kristó, Pázmány Péter Catholic University, Hungary

Other keynote speakers are to be announced later.

Conference Fee:

10 000fts or 35 euros, and it includes coffee break refreshments.

Accommodation:

Hotel reservations should be made individually. The organizers will provide the participants with useful information concerning accommodation upon request. Prices will range from 35 to 80 euros per night (single or double room, breakfast included).
