"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Meeting Description: We are pleased to announce that the 6th International Conference on Yi-Burmese Languages and Linguistics will be held on the campus of the Southwest University for Nationalities (SUN) in Chengdu, China, November 2-4, 2012. Also, the celebration of The Opening Ceremony of the Center for Studies on Yi-Burmese Languages will be given at the beginning of the conference.

The conference will be hosted by College of Yi Studies of SUN, in collaboration with the Minzu Yuwen Editorial Board of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Center for Chinese Linguistics of Perking University.
