IPrA Workshop (Accepted Panel): New Directions in Experimental Pragmatics
Organizers: E. Allyn Smith (Université du Québec à Montéal) and Marina Terkourafi (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) As a young and growing subfield of linguistics, experimental pragmatics is perhaps best known for work on scalar implicature, which has helped establish both its theoretical purview and methodological profile. However, scalar implicature represents only a small portion of what is routinely investigated under the heading of pragmatics, with more recent experimental work currently exploring a wider range of pragmatic phenomena. This panel seeks to showcase the newest work in experimental pragmatics, focusing on the inclusion of work on a wide variety of pragmatic phenomena and in a variety of languages, linked only by the psycholinguistic methodology adopted. |
