"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Meeting Description: The 8th International Conference of the North East Indian Linguistics Society (NEILS) will be held from January 31 to February 2, 2014, in Guwahati, Assam, India, to be hosted by the Gauhati University Department of Linguistics.

Fees:

The fee schedule for NEILS is as follows, and includes lunch and tea/snacks on each day of the conference:

Rs. 300: SAARC student without financial support
Rs. 1000: SAARC student with financial support
Rs. 1500: SAARC non-student (includes teaching faculty pursuing PhD) or International student
Rs. 3000: International non-student

Accommodation:

Accommodation will be available, and will be announced in due course on the NEILS mailing list, and will also be posted on the NEILS website (see below).
