"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Meeting Description: In cooperation with the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence, the 27th International FLAIRS Conference (FLAIRS-27; http://www.flairs-27.info/) will be held May 21-23, 2014 at the Hilton Pensacola Beach Gulf Front in Pensacola Beach, Florida, USA. FLAIRS-27 continues a tradition of presenting and discussing state of the art artificial intelligence and related research in a sociable atmosphere within a beautiful setting. Events will include invited speakers, special tracks, discussion panels, and presentations of papers, posters, and awards.

As always, there will be a Best Paper award and a Best Poster award. In addition, because FLAIRS has a rich tradition of encouraging student authors, there will be a Best Student Paper award for the best paper written primarily by a student.
