"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Meeting Description: The 6th Graduate Students Conference in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language will be held on January 18 &19, 2014 at the National Taichung University of Education in Taichung, Taiwan. The conference aims at bringing together graduate students whose research interests are related to Teaching Chinese as a Second Language to present research work and exchange ideas. We invite the submission of abstracts addressing all aspects of Teaching Chinese as a Second/Foreign Language.

This conference is hosted by the Department of Language and Literacy Education at the National Taichung University of Education and the World Chinese Language Association. Mandarin Chinese will be the language of the conference.
