"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Queen’s University Belfast: Schools of English, Modern Languages and Education

Queen’s University Belfast is pleased to announce its Interdisciplinary Linguistics Conference 2013 (ILinC 2013), a student-led venture co-organised by the Schools of English, Education and Modern Languages.

This one-day conference will give researchers studying language in all academic disciplines the opportunity to exchange information about their research practice in the presence of distinguished and esteemed academics in the field of linguistics. In addition, the event aims to bring together researchers from different academic divisions carrying out language studies in order to foster cross-disciplinary contact.
