"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. This conference, organized this year in collaboration with the British Council, will serve as a platform for the exchange of ideas, sharing of teaching methods and research based strategies for teaching language and literacy to Arab ESL students.

The Australian College of Kuwait is proud to announce Professor Rod Ellis, MA, MEd, PhD as this year’s keynote speaker. Professor Ellis is one of the leading researchers in second language acquisition and teaching for the last few decades.
