"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Meeting Description: The Department of General and Romance Linguistics, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Lisbon, is pleased to announce the III International Conference on Hispanic Linguistics: Frontiers and Dialogues, focused on languages in contact, and with a monographic session on Amerindian languages. It will take place on April 7-8 2014 at Amphitheatre III, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Lisbon.

Inaugural speaker will be Prof. Dr. Ignacio Bosque Muñoz (Professor of Spanish at the Complutense University of Madrid and Academician of the Royal Spanish Academy) and plenary speakers will be Prof. Dr. Ángel López García-Molins (Professor of Linguistics at the University of Valencia and director of the Valencian Institute of Amerindian Languages and Cultures) and Prof. Dr. Alejandro Veiga Rodríguez (Professor of Spanish at the University of Santiago de Compostela).
