"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Meeting Description: The 2nd LPRG Postgraduate politeness conference will be taking place at Sheffield Hallam University on Thursday, March 13, 2014, from 9.00 -5.00.

The aim of the conference is to provide a platform for postgraduate and early-career researchers to present and discuss their research in the field of Linguistic Politeness. Researchers will also have opportunity to to build and strengthen their research networks by engaging with a wider audience of both newer and more established academics.

This is a free conference (no fees). No lunch or coffee will be provided, so you are welcome to bring your own. You will be able to buy sandwiches and coffee/tea in the conference building.
