"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Motivation –Manifestations – Stages

The Graduate School Language and Literature Munich- Class of Language (previously called LIPP) is organising its 21st symposium, which will offer a framework for a synchronically and diachronically oriented treatment of the motivation, the phenomena and the stages of linguistic innovation. The symposium will be held from July 2-4, 2014 at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences in Munich.

If you want to attend the conference without presenting a paper, we kindly request you to register via e-mail (symposium2014@lipp.uni-muenchen.de) by June 10, 2014 at the latest. There is no participation fee.
