"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Meeting Description: The COLING conference, organised under the auspices of the International Committee on Computational Linguistics (ICCL), has a history that dates back to the 1960s. The conference is held every two years and regularly attracts more than 700 delegates. The 1st conference was held in New York, 1965. Since then, the conference has developed into one of the premier Natural Language Processing conferences world-wide held every two years. The last five conferences were held in Geneva (COLING 2004), Sydney (COLING - ACL 2006), Manchester (COLING 2008), Beijing (COLING 2010) and Mumbai (COLING 2012).

COLING covers a broad spectrum of technical areas related to natural language and computation. The conference will include full papers, oral presentations, poster presentations, demonstrations, tutorials, and workshops.
