Meeting Description: ConCALL was established in Spring 2014 as a professional development conference for linguists and language educators specializing in the languages of the Central Asian region, including both the Altaic and Eastern Indo-European languages spoken in the region, a diverse range of languages such as Azerbaijani, Dari, Kazakh, Mongolian, Pashto, Persian, Tajiki, Tibetan, Turkish, Tuvan, Uyghur, Uzbek, and more!

This fall, the Center for Languages of the Central Asian Region (CeLCAR) will be hosting the Second Conference on Central Asian Languages and Linguistics (ConCALL-2) at Indiana University 7-9 October, 2016.

The main goal of ConCALL-2 is to bring together professionals across the fields to focus on research into how these specific languages are represented formally, as well as acquired by second/foreign language learners and also to present research driven teaching methods.

This year’s theme is “Continuing the Journey: Strengthening the Central Asian Language Community”.

Keynote Speakers for the conference include leading names in Turkic, Iranian and Mongolic linguistics, as well as second language acquisition:

- Barış Kabak, Professor, Department of Linguistics, University of Würzburg, Germany
- Arsalan Kahnemuyipour, Assoc Professor, Department of Linguistics, University of Toronto, Canada
- Silvina Montrul, Professor, Department of Linguistics, University of Illinois, USA
- György Kara, Professor, Department of Central Eurasian Studies, Indiana University, USA

There will also be a number of other invited speakers, selected among linguists working on Central Asian languages and linguistics.
