Meeting Description:	At least since the days of F. de Saussure and H. Paul, the complementariness of synchronic and diachronic language studies and the proposition that language change originates in discourse have been acknowledged in Linguistics; however, the precise relationship between micro- and macro-historical developments of meaning change are still far from clear. In particular, the type of interface between different levels of analysing meaning changes, e.g. at genre; text; argument, metaphor (and other tropes); and lexical levels - needs to be taken into consideration. The workshop provides an opportunity to discuss the relationship between discourse and systemic analyses of meaning change in several dimensions: Meaning extension and reduction Onomasiological, semasiological accounts of lexical change Metaphorization v. demetaphorization Lexicalisation - grammaticalization Meaning change in ‘national’ language histories References: Croft, W.
