"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. The Institute of Linguistics of the University of Buenos Aires gladly invites researchers, teachers and students to participate in the II Young Linguists Conference, which will take place 6-8 March 2013 in Buenos Aires. The goal of the Conference is to create an environment for discussion and communication, thus providing opportunities for networking among peers in which young linguists - advanced undergraduate and graduate students - can gather and exchange their work in all areas of Linguistics.
