"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. The Department of Language and Linguistics at the University of Essex invites you to its eighth postgraduate two-day conference which will be held at the University of Essex on Thursday 13 - Friday 14 June 2013.

The conference aims at bringing together postgraduate students to present and discuss current research, results and problems from any field of linguistics.

Conference Format:

The conference will include presentations of papers, posters, workshops and plenary talks.

Invited Plenary Speakers:

We are pleased to announce Dr. Alan Waters (University of Lancaster) and Dr. Florence Myles (University of Essex) as this year’s plenary speakers.
