Meeting Description:
|
For many years, formal linguistics has focused on the ‘idealized’ monolingual speaker. Other areas of linguistics have been more concerned with ‘real life’ situations, where speakers often know multiple languages to a greater or lesser extent. During the past 20 years, work has started to emerge within the formal literature studying the representation of grammars in speakers who are multilingual. At the same time, psycholinguistic studies of bilingualism have contributed significantly to our understanding of bi- and multilingualism. This conference aims to discuss work on both the formal and experimental side, focusing on how to best approach the study of multilingualism.
