"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Meeting Description: The German Linguistic Society (DGfS) and the Local Organizing Committee are pleased to invite you to the 35th Annual Conference of the German Linguistic Society, which will be hosted by the University of Potsdam on March 12-15, 2013.

The main topic of this year’s conference is ‘information structure’.

Invited Speakers:

Ina Bornkessel-Schlesewsky (University of Marburg)
Laurence Horn (Yale University)
Pia Quist (University of Copenhagen)
Ian Roberts (University of Cambridge)

The conference program will feature 14 workshops focusing on various topics in linguistics, including (but not restricted to) information structure. Calls for papers are issued for individual workshops and announced separately.
