Comparative International Education Society focuses on a broad range of educational issues relevant to education in international and developing contexts. The Society has a Language Issues Special Interest Group and each year has many panels and papers focusing on language-related aspects of education in international and developing contexts. Issues dealt with include monolingual versus bilingual/multilingual education and the role of language(s) of instruction in L1 and L2 literacy development as well as the role of education in language maintenance and endangerment, globablization and education etc.

Language Issues SIG Dissertation Award 2014
The Comparative International Education Society (CIES) Language Issues (LI) Special Interest Group (SIG) is pleased to announce its 2014 Dissertation Award! The award is open to dissertations that focus on educational language issues, broadly defined, in comparative and international education.
Eligible dissertations must have been filed within an 18-month period prior to the LI SIG award's extended submission deadline of February 15, 2014 (e.g., from August 15, 2012 to February 15, 2014). Students in Ed.D. or Ph.D. programs are eligible and the applicant and/or the Dissertation Chair must be a current member of CIES. The winning dissertation will receive $100.
