17th Annual Conference on Language, Interaction, and Social Organization

The theme of the 17th Annual Conference on Language, Interaction, and Social Organization (LISO) is Interaction, Embodiment, and Materiality. Abstract submission is now available, and submission of all abstracts is due by January 15, 2011. The conference addresses topics at the intersection of language, interaction, and culture from theoretical perspectives that employ data from recorded, spontaneous interaction. Further, this year's theme will focus on issues of embodiment and materiality in interaction. This includes, but is not limited to, conversation analysis, discourse analysis, ethnography of communication, ethnomethodology, and interactional sociolinguistics. We welcome abstracts from graduate students and faculty working in the areas of Anthropology, Applied Linguistics, Education, Linguistics, Psychology, and Sociology. Presenters will have either: (1) 20 minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for discussion or (2) 25 minutes for a data session (small group presentation/discussion of research and data). The length allotted to each presenter will be be determined by the abstract review committee.
