SULA (The Semantics of Under-represented Languages in the Americas) brings together researchers working on languages or dialects spoken in the Americas which do not have an established tradition of work in formal semantics. One of the main strengths of this event is that research presented at it, typically involves primary fieldwork or experimentation as well as high-level theoretical analysis. The study of non-Indoeuropean languages in recent years has led to a rethinking of assumptions in formal semantics and the analysis of phenomena not studied before from a formal point of view. SULA has been one of the catalysts for the rapid expansion of cross-linguistic formal semantics within linguistics.
