13th Language and Society Conference, NZ

The 13th biennial Language and Society Conference in New Zealand will be hosted by the University of Auckland, this year. Papers on any aspect of the relationship between language and society – language use and its users – are welcomed. Keynote speakers: Umberto Ansaldo (University of Hong Kong) and Felicity Meakins (University of Queensland). Abstracts should be no more than 350 words and be submitted in pdf (or Word) format. The special theme for the 2012 conference is Minority Speech Communities in Focus. Papers on this topic are particularly welcome. The conference will be held at the University of Auckland, Arts 1 Building, 14a Symonds St, Auckland. It will run Wed 28 November and Thurs 29 November. On Friday 30 November, there will be an ASSTA Workshop on 'Phonetic analysis of Rhythm in Indigenous Languages', with Guest Speaker Amalia Arvaniti, UC, San Diego.
