Undergraduate Conference on Language Variation and Language Contact

We invite abstracts from undergraduate students in the areas of language variation/language contact for 20-minute talks followed by a 10-minute discussion period. Recommended length is 300 words, and no longer than 500 words as maximum. The abstract should summarize the main points to be covered in the talk and should indicate what research methods are employed and what the main findings are. It should also relate the work to existing research in the field. Abstracts will be evaluated on the basis of clarity, argumentation and potential contribution to advancing linguists' knowledge of any aspect of language structure and/or use in the areas of linguistic variation/language contact. Students working on any kind of language variation/language contact (including Native American languages, African American English, endangered languages, mixed languages and pidgins and creoles) are strongly encouraged to submit. Accepted U.S.-based students will be fully funded for travel and accommodations and will be expected to attend the Weinberg symposium on March 29.
