SHEL is a biennial tradition, providing for scholars the opportunity to gather and share their research and pedagogical methods in relation to the history of English worldwide. Papers on any aspect of the history of the English language are welcome, including phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, language acquisition, language contact, language change, stylistics, metrics, English language and culture, and English language in society. Papers on any period are welcome: Old English, Middle English, early Modern English, Late Modern English, and present-day English.

We also invite papers on pedagogy; the pedagogical workshop this year will consider the history of the English language as it is figured in the non-HEL class.

Abstract length should be no more than 500 words.
