The Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA) is the biggest university in Argentina, founded on August 12, 1821 in the city of Buenos Aires. It consists of 13 faculties, six hospitals, 10 museums and three high schools. There is no central campus as the different faculties are located throught the city. Students beware! It is absolutely FREE!!!
Argentines refer to their language as castellano (Castilian). The dialect spoken in Buenos Aires (as well as in other large cities like Rosario and Montevideo, Uruguay) is characterised by voseo, yeísmo and aspiration or loss of syllable-final -s. Due to its geographical location, it is known as Rioplatense Spanish.

The present Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Argentina is one of the most famous opera houses in the world. The present theatre, the second with that name, opened in 1908 after twenty years under construction. It has 2,367 seats and standing room for 1,000.

| Night Life |
If you are young and you want to go out dancing, you have many choices. There are places for many different types of music to go to. However, make sure you are willing to stay up until really late at night (or should I say early in the morning!). If you go out dancing, you won't get in the club until around 1am! And will probably stay in there until around 6am! But consider the idea of having a wonderfully fresh croissant for breakfast before going to bed!

The British invasions of the Río de la Plata were an unsuccessful series of British expeditions into the colonies located around the Río de la Plata basin in South America, between 1806 and 1807, during the Napoleonic Wars. There were two unsuccessful British invasions we, as Argentinians, are proud of.

| Tango |
Tango was originally danced only with male partners, because it was deemed too sexually explicit to dance with a man and a woman. In 1902, the Teatro Opera started organising tango balls. In the 1920s, tango was adopted by the Parisian high society and then all over the world.
The Buenos Aires style of tango music evolved into an elaborated genre. In its heyday, tango had many famous orchestras such as those led by Aníbal Troilo and Juan D'Arienzo, and singers such as Carlos Gardel and Edmundo Rivero.
Buenos Aires now holds an annual "Tango Day" each December 11.
In San Telmo, Sundays are devoted to tango shows on the streets and antiques trade in the bazaars around Dorrego Square.

In the San Telmo district, the city's multinational heritage is embodied in a varied and cosmopolitan architecture - Spanish Colonial design couples with Italian detailing and graceful French Classicism. La Boca's pressed tin houses are painted a rainbow of colors, and muralists have turned the district's side-streets into avenues of color.
