Brief Description : The language of possibly the earliest Mesoamerican script, though the Olmec script may be earlier. Since texts are few and relatively short, and difficult to interpret, the script is essentially undeciphered. Most texts come from Monte Albán. Since the numbering system can be understood, however, it is known that the Zapotecs used a solar calendar of 365 days as well as a sacred calendar of 260 days. 300 BC - 700 AD.
