Dear Subscribers, I'm in my third year here at the LINGUIST List, and I'm still overwhelmed by how lucky I am to be in the middle of all of this - every day I go to work with some of the smartest, most driven people I've ever met. The best part of it is that, as disparate as all of our backgrounds and interests may be, we are united by a passion for linguistics, and a dedication to the linguistics community. You see, in previous years, dear subscribers, I've written about how a random internet search for 'linguistics' in high school brought me to the LINGUIST List, about a random acquaintance that ended up working for the LINGUIST List (who got me thinking about best practices for the first time). Now I'm in my second year of a Master's degree, and I'm undertaking a thesis while working on two active grant projects (LL-MAP and LEGO). There's still a lot of work to be done on other projects, over here, and since I'm also in charge of the Tech Team, it's my job to ensure that everything goes as smoothly as possible. It's a crazy world out there, full of deadlines that must be abided by and opportunities that must be grasped. Sometimes we all feel a bit over our heads, but fortunately for you, there's LINGUIST List! And, fortunately for us here at the LINGUIST List, there's you. Let me clarify; we can help you get feedback on a paper or book or experiment, we can help you find conferences you're interested in attending, we can help you organize your own symposium, we can help you find a room for a night or two, and the LINGUIST List can even help you find a job - and I think all of us know how hard that can be. So in exchange for all that, every year we ask for a little something back.
