Title: Research Assistant / PostDoc / Contractual Functions: In the context of research in the area of automatic speech recognition, a multi-disciplinary team, including researchers from Nortel Networks, seeks a person to design software as part of a project for natural language understanding and natural dialogue systems. This researcher will program algorithms to achieve accurate communication with natural voice dialogues, and participate in the team's efforts to render telephone dialogue systems more efficient. Requirements: Have a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or computer science. Graduate study in these or related fields, as well as a solid mathematical background and a knowledge of the technical aspects of speech communication, will be viewed favorably. At least one year's experience in scientific programming in C or C++ in a Unix environment is needed. Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence techniques and/or experience with Lisp or Prolog will be considered strong assets. Research Fellow (post-doc) and Research (PhD) Studentship on project Generating Summaries of Time-Series Data Dept of Computing Science, University of Aberdeen, Scotland, UK The Department of Computing Science is looking for a Research Fellow and Research (PhD) Student to work on a new 3-year EPSRC project on generating textual summaries of time-series data. This project will involve research in both time-series analysis and natural-language generation, and we welcome applicants with an interest in either area. The Research Fellow should have a PhD in Computer Science and experience in either time-series analysis or natural-language processing. Experience in working with industry would also be an asset, as we have two industrial collaborators.
