The University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a tenured position in South Asian Studies beginning in the 2000-2001 academic year. Candidates in any social science discipline whose work is committed to the study of contemporary India will be considered. The appointment will be made to the department of the successful applicant's expertise. Capacity and willingness to serve a term at some point in the future as the chair of Berkeley's Center for South Asian Studies also will receive positive consideration. It is expected that an endowed Chair in India Studies will accompany the appointment.
