Dear colleagues in Russian and LRC directors;
You may now say "Happy birthday, "Tovarishch X"!"
"Tovarishch X" ("Comrade X") is a new program designed to improve and
develop comprehension skills for the 2-nd, 3-rd and 4-th year
students, studying Russian. Lots of fun and cultural experience are
brought to you by using clips from Russian radio stations and
television channel "ORT-1". There are all kinds of uses for this
software. In my 2nd year Russian course I am going to use it bit by
bit throughout the semester, giving little home assignments on a daily
basis. For the "upgraded" students you may suggest to work on their
own with the program.
All of the assignments are arranged in the accending difficulty; the
further -- the harder!
Here is the web site to download the Russian software "Tovarishch X"
("Comrade X") for Macintosh

Dear list members: A couple of days ago I sent a message to the list announcing the publication of the modernized and standardized version of the "Vocabulario Poliglota Incaico", a dictionary of Spanish, Quechua and Aymara terms. In the body of the text, I say "This is a dictionary originally produced by Franciscan missionaries on behalf of the Colegio de Propaganda Fide del Peru (Fide School of Advertising of Peru)." The translation which appears in parentheses is in error, a fact which I thank Dr. Ignacio Hualde of the Dept. of Spanish, Italian and Portuguese at the University of Illinois-Urbana, for pointing out to me. A more appropriate translation would be "Evangelization" or "Dissemination of faith." I apologize for the inaccurate translation. As Dr. Hualde informed me, "propaganda fide" is Latin; my translation error arose from interpreting it as Spanish, which in this particular phrase is nearly identical to the original Latin.
