aol.com Deborah Eicher-Catt, Chair Commission on Semiotics and Communication "The Commission on Semiotics and Communication of the National Communication Association announces a CALL FOR PAPERS for the Annual National Communication Association Convention to be held in Chicago, IL, November 4-7, 1999, at the Chicago Hilton and Towers. This year's theme is "Coloring Outside the Lines" and the Commission invites completed papers, detailed abstracts and panel proposals that (1) develop semiotic theory; (2) appraise and/or apply the work of a major theorist; (3) offer insight on gender, race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, disability or other issues of social concern; (4) critically analyze a cultural text or artifact; (5) examine the interdisciplinary contributions of semiotics, and (6) address how alternative forms of communicating originate. Student papers are welcome and should be identified as such. Completed papers should include a separate title page with author identification and a 75 word abstract. Detailed abstracts should include a bibliography as well as a title page. Program proposals should include a title, rationale, names and affilations of participants and a 75 word abstract for each paper. Submissions must be received by February 15, 1999.
