In a paper in Te Reo 37 (1994) I reported from the Wellington Corpus of Written New Zealand English that of the 367 tokens of different, 47 co-occurred with from, 8 with to and 2 with than. The proportions are very similar to those found in the LOB corpus of British English, with just slightly more use of from, but differ considerably from the Brown corpus, where there is no use of to. New Zealand English uses to in this construction, but in edited usage at least prefers from. I have not tried running this question through the corresponding Wellington Corpus of Spoken New Zealand English to see how much difference there is.
