Mufwene" <mufwMail to author|Respond to list|Read more issues|LINGUIST home page|Top of issueMIDWAY.UCHICAGO.EDU> Subject: VERY SAD NEWS AT U OF C Dear colleagues: It is with great sorrow that I announce the unexpected death of my former teacher and wonderful colleague Jim McCawley from apparently a sudden heart attack last night, between 9:00 and 10:00 PM. He was walking and collapsed. An unknown student saw the fall and Jim was taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. I am still in shock and trying to inform those who should know right away. I saw Jim last on Friday and talked with him in my office, after a faculty meeting. He looked normally healthy, quite energetic in fact. Sali.
